I’m Jon.

I’m currently training as an integrative counsellor, having completed my Foundation Certificate in Counselling and preparing to begin the Diploma in Integrative Counselling in April 2026.

My route into counselling hasn’t been linear, and I see that as a strength rather than something to smooth over. Before beginning my training, I spent many years working as a creative professional, primarily in photography. That work taught me how to pay attention, how to sit with people in important moments, and how to be present without directing or intruding. Those skills don’t disappear just because the context changes - they inform how I approach learning now.

Counselling training has reinforced something I already valued: that listening well is an active, disciplined process. It’s not about having the right response, interpretation, or solution. It’s about staying curious, noticing what’s happening in the moment, and being aware of how your own reactions, assumptions, and limits come into play.

As a trainee, much of my focus is on developing that awareness responsibly. That includes engaging seriously with supervision, understanding ethical boundaries, and continuing my own personal therapy as part of the training process. I’m interested in counselling not as a set of techniques, but as a relationship-based way of working that requires humility, patience, and ongoing reflection.

This website isn’t here to present me as an expert or to offer guidance on how others should live their lives. It exists as a reflective space alongside my training - a place to think carefully about what it means to become a counsellor, and to document learning as it develops over time.

I’m not currently offering counselling services. When that changes in the future, this site will evolve to reflect my role and responsibilities clearly and appropriately.

For now, it represents where I am: learning steadily, working within my limits, and taking the process seriously.
